On the Gold Coast, the State Emergency Service (SES) received about 10 calls for help from people with leaky rooves. A house still under construction at Coomera was hit by lightning.
But senior forecaster Michelle Berry warns there will be more storm activity.
"There are currently some storms occurring on the New South Wales coast... they may impact Brisbane overnight," she said.
"On the Gold and Sunshine Coast it doesn't look to be as severe as the activity we are seeing at the moment, so we will just keep a close eye on things."
Energex says more than 14,500 customers are without power, with about 100 lightning strikes recorded every minute over its south-east Queensland power network.
The Energex loss of supply number is 13 62 62.
